Ha salido un largo artículo sobre IPT en “Piano y Jazz”, un blog de José Manuel Quintana Cámara muy interesante que también trata temas como el latin jazz, flamenco y la música electrónica. [play-botton:hello.mp3]
Igor Prochazka Trio (IPT) was founded at the end of 2006 in the pursuit of original jazz and an own sound that his members missed in other projects. Although IPT has maximum respect for the traditions of Bebop and later eras the group sees his goal in a more innovative and personal Jazz. Open to be influenced by new tendencies, even those from outside of Jazz, they don’t choose the easy way of applying mere style mixes. The imaginative compositions by pianist Igor Prochazka and the excellent improvisation skills of Christian Perez (double bass) and Federico Marini (drums), two of the most demanded musicians in Madrid’s jazz scene, produce a personal and profound character in each song. IPT is truly international trio: the three Madrid-based musicians come from USA, Argentina and Germany. It is the universality of their interpretation of Jazz that unites their musical roots.
June 2007 IPT won the first prize in the Jazz category in the nation-wide band contest “Audiciones” run by Fundación Canal (Madrid, Spain).
A Florida native, Christian Perez started playing electric bass at a young age in rock and funk bands. After several years of playing around the club scene, he began to study jazz in Washington, D.C. with double bassists Pepe González (Imani, Hilton Ruiz, Slide Hampton, Clifford Jordan) and Steve Novosel (Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Andrew White, Fathead Newman, Eddie Harris, Shirley Horn), and with trumpet player Webster Young (Jackie McLean, Mal Waldron) and trombonist Calvin Jones (Ray Charles). In 2004, he moved to Madrid, where he has performed with diverse musicians in many styles. In 2005, he joined the Santiago de La Muela Big Band. In 2007, he appeared on jazz guitarist Antonio Bravo’s album Tangentes. In the summer of 2008 he toured with the flamenco guitarist Pepe Haro. Since 2006, he has been professor of double bass and electric bass at Aula de Músicas in Madrid. He recently joined the group of singer-songwriter Pablo Guerrero.
